One thing i do is message the next man up when I have completed my pick. That is in addition to tagging them just in case it doesn't work.

Since it's raining today and I have nothing else to do I went through all of the minor league drafts. There were 3 owners who bore most of the responsibility for missed picks. One owner missed a total of 5 picks in 3 leagues. One owner missed 5 picks in 2 leagues. And the third owner missed 3 picks, all in different leagues. Only 1 other owner missed 1 pick. But if you add all of this up, 3 owners missed 13 picks, causing us a total of 13 extra days to complete the various minor league drafts. Gibson itself, the longest draft, had 5 missed picks, adding 5 days. Without these the 15 day draft would have been finished in 10 days, about in line with the other drafts considering that Gibson has more picks to make. Berra had 4 missed picks, adding 2 days without which it would also have been finished in about the same time as other leagues. Sparky and Bob had no missed picks and finished in 8 and 6 days respectively, Bell had 1 missed pick and finished in 7. Some of this depends on the number of minor leaguers frozen per league and the number of picks to be made. So I think finishing in 1 week should be our goal with maybe an extra day or 2 for Gibson. Seeing this I am rethinking my suggestion that we allow 1 missed pick and impose any sanctions on owners after the 2nd miss. The data shows that if an owner misses 1 pick he is very likely to miss more. I also think we might begin to have the LA's share the names of owners who have missed picks and when an owner does so in 1 league he is considered to be sanctioned in all leagues so that the system is set up per owner rather than per league. The 3 offending owners all missed picks in multiple leagues. This could save time everywhere.

I agree with Popeye and Geoflin.

Geoff,
If you haven't already done so, can you write privately to the "offenders" via PM or email and get their side of the story as to why they were not making their picks? Would be good to know if the reason was they were not seeing notifications or some other reason. Common sense would say that if you know a draft is going then you should at least be checking in once a day to see if your turn is getting close.

I have heard back from 2 of the 3. I'll send an email to the third. He was on line here after I sent the PM but hasn't responded. Both of those who responded were apologetic and thanked me for reaching out. Both said there were things going on in their lives which made it a difficult time and both promised to do better in the future. One mentioned that he is in a number of leagues and got confused because one league (Berra) had a 12 hour window rather than 24 hours for picks. Next year we should be sure that all windows are 24 hours, that's what the rules say. I'm not in Berra so was unaware of this until I did some research yesterday. He also said he had his lists all prepared, just sometimes didn't get on line at the right time.

I heard back from the 3rd owner. Good thing I sent him an email asking him to check his messages. Although he's been here since 2019 he didn't look at the top of the page and was not aware that he gets messages so had never checked them. He found trade offers and other messages from past years that he had never responded to. So when he was tagged he didn't know. He said that he tried to check here once a day but often when he did he had already missed his turn. I told him how to turn on email notifications for tags and messages. Hopefully he will and when he receives a message or gets tagged he'll be more involved.

So to reiterate - if we can agree on this or something close to it we can see how it works next year.
All owners should be strongly encouraged to send lists to the LA. These lists will be used only if the owner asks that they be used or if the owner misses a pick in which case the LA will make a choice from the list ASAP after the 24 hour window ends. We can begin a thread in the Moderator's Discussion area where any owner who misses a pick will be made known to the other LA's. That owner loses his right to an exclusive 24 hour window for the remainder of that year's minor league drafts in all leagues. When his turn comes up the LA will make his choice from the list if it was sent in, if not the owner will be notified but the next owner with a pick will at the same time also be notified and be on the clock. As was the case this year all owners will have the right to make up missed picks from the remaining players before the draft ends. Each league LA will communicate with any owner who has missed a pick to go over what will happen when each of his future picks comes up.
