After dropping $60 on Castillo I find myself with zero fan for the first time. I found myself posting a claim for Bubba Thompson last night just as his claiming period ended. Of course I won’t know if I got him until we see if any faab bids were made. Since we never get a notice that no one claim a player in faab, I got to thinking about zero faab bids. Might the LA approve my claim only to have to reverse it in finding there was a faab bid. I had to wait until the claiming period was over because if I claimed before it would just alert the league that was interested.
Seems like they could simplify this situation. Granted it’s the first time I’ve ever found myself in it. Would it better to allow zero faab bids? If no one bids, you get the player for $1.
There be newly available player that you in effect say, if no one wants this guy, I’ll take him.

This is covered under rule 5.8.4
5.8.4 Any team with FAAB funds remaining may bid on a player subject to FAAB, within the limits of position eligibility and roster balance requirements. The LA will post updated lists of teams’ FAAB budgets in the league forum.
Since you have no FAAB funds remaining you are not able to submit a FAAB bid. If you want the player you will have to wait until his FAAB period is over and claim him then if he is still available. If you claim the player before the FAAB period is over the claim will be denied. It is not unusual for an LA to approve a claim after the FAAB period has ended, then have to reverse the approval when the monitor posts a winning bid, often not immediately.
I'm not sure what the problem would be in waiting 58 hours for the FAAB period to be over as we have always done.

That’s exactly what I did. I understand the rule, but since there is almost always a delay in posting Faab results. It creates the possibility of a mistake where an LA processes a valid transaction not knowing about an existing Faab claim. Granted such a mistake is correctable, but it could be avoided by allowing zero Faab bids. Ties could be handled under the current rules.

Worth talking about in rules committee but my initial feeling is that I am against it. If the owner made the decision to spend all his FAAB bucks then its his problem that he can't bid and must wait for the FAAB period to be over. I'm probably just bitter about losing Castillo to you though, lol.

I am against it as well. It really hasn't been a problem that LA's occasionally approve a transaction and then have to reverse it because a successful FAAB bid is reported. I don't think we need to create a rule to fix a problem we don't have. I see no issue with owners who have spent all their FAAB funds waiting 58 hours at most, likely less, to claim a player. Some of us already do that in order to avoid spending the FAAB money we do have left, we take a chance on claiming the player after FAAB is over rather than submit a bid.

It is the first time I’ve run out of Faab. I’m finding that being Faabless, puts me back in the days when I’m posting claim at 10:00 PM EST. While I can do that maybe everyone can’t. There might also be situations where you might in effect say, “If no one else want them, I would take him” even when have Faab to spend.
