There are a few players who weren't on the available lists, but may well be on the opening day rosters. Chris Paddock, for example...there may be others. Are these guys subject to FAAB bids on opening day? Are they draftable in the minor league portion of the draft?

I don't think this would happen if we had the auctions AFTER MLB teams set their 25 man rosters for Opening Day. It might make making the AVAILABLE lists simpler and easier as well. We would know who made the teams and who is on the Injured List. If we see some real baseball before our auctions could it really cause any harm?

I do not see the need for the available lists. I have been in many leagues with no such lists without a problem. The rule should be that any player owned by a MLB team in the relevant league is eligible (whether or not likely to make the 25 or 40 man roster) so long as the player is not frozen or ineligible by virtue of no MLB experience. Instead, we have a skilled volunteer administrator spending inordinate time compiling a list that sometimes has errors. So we occasionally witness drafts in which a player is declared ineligible just because he was erroneously left off the list. I recall a Berra draft delayed at least for half an hour or more by Dawg (a founder of Mocksports?) when an outlandish error had been made on the available list (before Crosley's time). For the 48 hour rule, we need the 25 man rosters; but we do not need available lists for the draft.
